Will Going Blonde Ruin The Condition Of My Hair?

The latest hair care products and technology allow us to protect and even strengthen your hair during the hair colouring process.  At Martin and Phelps Hair Salon in Cheltenham, we offer two great hair protection services in-salon: Smartbond and Wellaplex.

Smartbond is an innovative hair strengthening system that has been specifically formulated to work together with our colour products. We can add Smartbond to your colour service, which will extend the time it takes by approximately 10 minutes and will  protect and strengthen your hair, leaving it softer, shinier and healthier looking.  We’re sure you’ll be delighted with the results.

Wellaplex can also be added to your hair colour or alternatively used as a stand-alone treatment to repair and strengthen your hair.  It comprises 3 steps:  Bond Maker, Bond Stabiliser are offered in the salon.   The third step – Wellaplex No. 3 Stabilizer – is used at home to strengthen your hair and leave it smooth and soft.

We stock a great range of hair care products from both Wella System Professional and Paul Mitchell and have a number of shampoos available designed to strengthen colour-treated hair (also great if you suffer from dry hair or split ends!)  Speak to your Martin & Phelps stylist and we can recommend the best products and treatments for you.

What Are The Benefits of Having Blonde Hair?

We appreciate all hair colours here at our salon in Cheltenham but as we’re talking about blondes, here are just a few reasons you might want to join the blonde brigade!

Each shade of blonde has a different character.  For example, it can appear innocent and feminine or portray a relaxed sun-kissed beachy style.  Blonde hair can also be glamorous and bold!  Going blonde is a great way to pep up your look and display different elements of your personality with your hair.  It lets you have fun with other fashion colours too!  Bright, temporary tints and hair chalks show up really well on light blonde hair, so you could almost try out a different shade for every outfit!

Blonde hair  always has the power to turn heads too.  In choosing to go blonde, you will be joining the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Cameron Diaz and Kate Moss!

Are There Any Disadvantages To Having Blonde Hair?

If you opt for a new all-over hair colour, you will need to maintain this by popping into the salon to have your root regrowth touched up every six to eight weeks or so.  Regrowth with highlights will be much less obvious, and you can have a T-section to refresh your look every eight weeks or so.  Balayage is even lower maintenance and you may not need to pop into the salon for even longer.  You may also want to come in in-between these appointments for a toner or glossing treatment to boost your colour –  although we’d call this a benefit rather than a disadvantage!   It’s our job to pamper you at Martin & Phelps Salon in Cheltenham!

How Do I Stop My Blonde Hair Looking Washed Out?

Wella System Professional-Color-Save-Shampoo at Martin & Phelps Salon CheltenhamIn-salon and home treatments and professional colour care products are a great way of helping maintain your bright and vibrant blonde hair.  At Martin and Phelps salon in Cheltenham, we highly recommend the System Professional Color Save range from Wella.  This includes a shampoo designed to prolong the luminosity of your colour, as well as a regular conditioner which not only smooths and conditions the hair fibre but protects the colour from fading too.   The range also includes a hair mask with added infusion to protect the hair’s luminosity and shine.   Ask you stylist for more information.

Why Should I Use A Purple Shampoo?

Professional colour-enhancing or colour-safe shampoos and conditioners are a must if you want to stop your blonde shade from looking brassy.   You can showcase the beauty of blonde hair with a clarifying blue or purple shampoo which is designed to neutralise unwanted brassy tones.  When hair is lightened, its natural warm tones become visible which can look yellow or orange.  A professional quality blue or purple shampoo can also nourish and protect the hair leaving soft to touch and easy to comb.

Which Products Do You Recommend for Blonde Hair?Wella-System-Professional-Silver-Shampoo-at Martin and Phelps Salon Cheltenham

We highly recommend System Professional Silver Shampoo, which contains blue pigments to neutralise brassy yellow or orange tones in your blonde.  We would recommend alternating between this and the System Professional Color Save range.  Ask your stylist for more information.

How Do I Remove Brassy Tones From My Blonde Hair?

A toner is another great tool for neutralising unwanted yellow or brassy tones from blonde hair. Just like a purple or blue-toned shampoo, a toner can counteract the brassy shades, while also adding shine to your hair.
