As a guide, if you have a round or square shaped face, you should aim to shape your beard to try and make your face look longer.  You can balance out the width of your face by keeping the sideburns and cheek ares shorter and letting the hairs grow longer on the bottom of your chin.

If you have a rectangular or triangular shaped face, you want to achieve the opposite effect and aim to add some width to your face. You can do this by leaving the sideburns and cheeks a bit longer and trimming the beard shorter at the chin.  Make sure that you don’t let your sideburns grow too long and bushy though as this will distort your face shape!

If you have an oval shaped face, you’re in luck, as you will find it easiest to experiment with different beard lengths and shapes because oval is the general shape to aim for when sculpting your facial hair.
