What Is Balayage?

Balayage is a French term, meaning “to sweep”. This technique is where colour is hand-painted across your hair to give you a natural sun-kissed look, as though you have been out in the sun or on holiday. The effect given is more subtle than conventional hair colour methods because the colour is painted on exactly where you want it by hand, giving you  a bespoke, individual look which is perfect for you.

How Is Balayage Applied?

Our talented hair colour technicians will hand paint your chosen colour onto your hair, applying it more sparingly towards your roots and with bolder brush strokes towards the tips of your hair. We will highlight areas where your hair colour would naturally lift in the sun, giving it a finish that’s both subtle and multidimensional.

What Are The Differences Between Balayage & Ombré?

Whereas ombré gives you a clear and contrasting two-toned effect, balayage is more subtle, with only a few sections of highlights being added to your roots.  This gives colour with different intensities, becoming the most dense at the tips of your hair.  Ombré, on the other hand, gives colour that is always dark at the roots and gradually becomes lighter towards the tips in a more defined way.

Can Balayage Work For Any Hair Colour?

Absolutely! Balayage hair colours can look stunning on all shades, from vibrant red hair, brilliant blondes and chocolately brunettes. Balayage is also a brilliant way for you to try out more fashionable, fun colours such as on-trend pastel shades.

Will Balayage Cause Damage To My Hair?

Like any other hair colouring service, balayage has the potential to dry your hair. Our expert colour specialists will tailor your hair colour treatment to suit condition of your hair, leaving you with beautifully coloured, healthy looking hair with a minimum of damage.

How Do I Maintain My Balayage Hair Colour?

Balayge is an incredidibly low-maintenance hair colour service, with a less obvious root re-growth than convential hair colouring methods, such as foils. You will only need to visit your hair colourist every 12-14 weeks for a balayage hair colouring service, although we would recommend a quick colour glossing service every 6 weeks to keep your hair looking fabulous between appointments.

How Long Will It Take To Create a Balayage Hair Colour For Me?

The length of your appointment will depend on whether we are adding balayage throughout your hair or just adding a few face framing highlights. Book in for a consultation where we will be able to assess your hair and discuss with you the look that you want.

Please note, if your hair is damaged, your appointment will take longer as we will work with you to improve the condition of your hair so that it is ready for the colouring process.
